University Baptist CDC participates in the Department of Childrens Affairs First Class Voluntary
Pre-K Program. This program benefits four-year-olds across the state of Alabama as its purpose is to provide full day, five days a week, and 180 days per year of high quality children's programming. Eligible children must turn 4 before August 31st of the upcoming school year. University Baptist CDC has one Pre-K classroom serving up to 18 children.
Quick facts about the Pre-K program:
- Staff/Child Ratio: 1:9
- 6.5 hour school day, before and after care available
- Significantly reduced tuition fees
- Lead Teacher must have at least a Bachelor's Degree; Assitant Teacher must have at least a Child Development Associate credential
- On-site dental, vision, speech and language screenings
According to the Department of Childrens Affairs, children who participate in high-quality pre-kindergarten programs:
- Demonstrate higher academic achievement
- Are less likely to repeat a grade
- Less likely to require special education classes
- More likely to graduate from high school
- More likely to enroll in college
- Less likely to participate in criminal activity
- Less likely to be victims of child maltreatment or neglect, and are
- Less likely to depend on public assistance.
